When Offshore Sailing School first got involved with the Leukemia Cup Regatta in 2009, Offshore Sailing School’s founders Doris and Steve Colgate had three inspirations:
- Steve’s step-father lost his battle to leukemia
- In 2014, Doris and Steve watched one of their very best friends fight a losing battle to acute myeloid leukimia (AML), a form of leukemia that takes so may lives
- Gary Jobson and his comeback from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Gary, a legend and iconic figure in sailing circles was already a guiding light in the fight against cancer for 10 years before he was diagnosed. Gary underwent a stem cell transplant and came back stronger than ever, and has inspired sailors throughout the world to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Offshore Sailing School has been a proud national sponsor of LLS and the Leukemia Cup Regattas for many years, helping to raise and contribute more than $140,000 toward finding the cure for blood cancers. The Leukemia Cup Regatta brings sailors together to raise funds and compete in a fun atmosphere. It is truly one of the greatest events, helping patients who have suffered or are still suffering from blood cancer, and those who have lost loved ones or friends to leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. The Colgates feel so strongly about LLS and hope you can also join in this national effort to raise funds for research and blood cancer treatments. All it takes is a simple step: registering for a Leukemia Cup Regatta in your area. If you don’t own a boat or have a crew, you can still get involved by purchasing tickets to the parties or supporting the local auction events.
When you participate in a Leukemia Cup Regatta, you are doing more than racing your boat towards the finish line You and your crew are helping accelerate cancer cures and improving the quality of life for patients and their families.
Thank you very much for your support!
