Offshore Sailing School’s 2018 “Summer Sailabration” Contest Winner Announced

Jeff Monuszko Wins a Week-Long Charter with The Moorings

When Offshore Sailing School’s Director of Marketing, Beth Oliver, called Jeff to tell him he was the WINNER, she left a voice mail saying “I hope you’re out sailing somewhere, but call when you get a chance because we have news for you,” and sent an email with the same message. His message back was, “I wish I was out sailing!”

2018 Summer Sailabration Contest Winning Photo and Essay – by Jeff Monuszko on Far Right

The “Summer Saillabration” contest prize is a week-long charter on a Moorings yacht in the British Virgin Islands. Jeff knows the area well, as he is also a proud owner of one of The Moorings charter yachts, a 42.3 monohull called LUFF OUT LOUD. A 2014 graduate of Offshore Sailing School’s Fast Track to Cruising Course and 2015 graduate of Offshore’s Performance Sailing Course, 27 year old Jeff Monuszko of Pompano Beach, Florida beat out more than 30 entries who responded to the contest rules, to provide a 100 word essay and photo describing:

How Sailing with Your Family Has Changed Your Life and What Sailing Means to You.

THE GIFTS OF SAILING

I have begun to see the world from a whole new perspective. Whether it be as simple as the friendships I’ve made through the sailing community or the broadening of my horizons through the travel and cultural experiences that sailing has pulled me into. Sailing has brought out traits, feelings, and skills I did not know I had; be it the strength and fortitude required to weather a storm or the focused persistence of sailing in a light wind. It never falters as the place where my family and I can leave our busy scattered lives, reunite, escape, and enjoy.

In submitting his entry, Jeff wrote that “This photo was taken in July 28, 2017 just a few short weeks before Hurricane Irma decimated my favorite place on earth, the beautiful British Virgin Islands. I am fortunate enough to have shared this magical place with my cousins, their children, and their parents before it was changed forever. They have since embraced sailing as a family vacation of their own and cannot wait to return to the new BVI. Pure Joy II did survive the storm, but sustained a substantial amount of damage.”

You Can Be a Winner Too

When Jeff told his mother he won the contest, she broke into tears of joy. Now, that’s what sailing is all about! No doubt there will be more contests in the years ahead, so set your sites on an Offshore Sailing School course and join the ranks of those who live for fun on the water under sail!
