Learn What It Takes to Be a Top-Level Sailing Instructor

There are three ways people learn best, all factors that make a sailing course a great sailing course and a sailing instructor awesome in the words of our many graduates. These are:

Visual – As soon as you sign up you receive the US Sailing Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising and Bareboat Cruising textbooks and our comprehensive Fast Track to Cruising textbook written by the Colgates.

Auditory – Every day, just like our students, you attend classroom sessions to reinforce what is covered in the books. During this time you learn how to graphically explain the “whys” not just the “hows” of what students will encounter on the water, using a variety of teaching aides.

Kinesthetic – Then on the first two days of the course you head to the Colgate 26 fleet at docks just outside the classroom, and go through the step by step process of learning and observing how Offshore Sailing School instructors teach by encouraging, supporting, inspiring and explaining, not just “showing” on the water. And then you step aboard a Jeanneau 439 monohull for the six day live aboard course and follow the same Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic techniques as you learn and observe how instructors manage the transition from a 26keelboat to 43cruising yacht over an 8-day period, with a highly successful student graduation rate.
