Offshore Sailing School 50th Anniversary Contest

During 2014, Offshore Sailing School ran a contest for anyone who had taken a course or sailing lesson, participated on a flotilla cruise, sailed in a corporate or group adventure, or any other program provided by Offshore Sailing School. Entries were judged by the editors of Cruising World magazine.

GRAND PRIZE: Craig Kaminer, St. Louis, MO

Craig Kaminer completed a Fast Track to Cruising Course in St. Petersburg, FL in 1994 and has been sailing and cruising with his wife on their own boat and chartered boats ever since. Craig won a private dinner for two with Steve and Doris Colgate at the New York Yacht Club, with accommodations at the Club that night and a $500 American Express gift card for travel or incidentals. FIRST PRIZE: Amy Erickson Bartholomew,

Roseville, MN

Amy Erickson Bartholomew and her husband completed a Bareboat Cruising Preparation Course (now called Bareboat Charter Cruising Course) on Captiva Island, FL in 2012. They have enjoyed many sailing charters since. Amy won the week-long charter in the British Virgin Islands on a Moorings 4600 catamaran, and plans to host a family adventure spanning four decades next spring. “We created a short video called Catalyst to explore the reasons we embraced the sailing lifestyle,” says Amy. SECOND PRIZE: Steven Gray, London, England

Steven Gray completed a Learn to Sail Course with his family at Offshore Sailing School’s(21ein)_5.2_News_StevenGray_700x465 Ft. Myers Beach, FL location in 2014. His visual presentation called “Finding your family ‘mojo and putting the zing back . . .” is a pictorial storyboard that shows how Offshore Sailing School transformed his family’s life. Steven won a 6-day/5-night Live Aboard Cruising Adventure on an Offshore Sailing School Jeanneau 439, and will share this with his wife and two daughters. The prize includes sailing with an Offshore Sailing School instructor and personal chef, plus two nights’ accommodations at the Pink Shell Beach Resort. You can view his presentation here.

 

THIRD PRIZE: Kyle Royal, Norcross, GA

Kyle participated in an Emory Goizueta Leadership Adventure in 2014, conducted by (22ein)_5.2_News_Contest_KyleRoyal_GALA_700x465Offshore Sailing School in the British Virgin Islands. His article and photos, “An Innovative Partnership,” profiles the partnership Offshore Sailing School has with Emory University’s Goizueta Business School and summarizes his experience in the GALA program. Kyle won a 7-day/6-night sailing vacation for two at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island, FL with daily use of a Colgate 26 sailboat and dinner one evening at the resort’s Harbourside Grill. FOURTH PRIZE: Jason Marraffa and Melissa Fatale, Carneys Point, NJ

Jason Marraffa and Melissa Fatale completed the Offshore Sailing School Bareboat (23)_5.2_News_MarraffaFataleSketch_700x465Cruising Course on Captiva Island, FL in 2014. They created a color sketch and poem about their adventure, and received a $500 gift certificate from Gill NA – a worldwide apparel and accessories brand serving the marine industry with over three decades of experience in producing sailing gear for comfort and protection.
