A Winning Combination Bar None

No other sailboat racing school offers this winning combination. Bill Gladstone is the Director of Education for North U, and creator of the North U Tactics and Trim Seminars, books and CDs. He has been teaching sailing and racing since 1973 and raced on everything from dinghies to fifty footers, ponds to oceans, foredeck to helm. Graduates of Bill’s programs are winning sailboat races in fleets worldwide. Bill is with you throughout the week — running seminars each day, video-recaps each evening, tweaking your knowledge to match the skills you get on the race course from Offshore Sailing School’s expert racing faculty and guest coaches. Here he is, heading up the mast of one of our cruising boats to get videos for the evening recaps.

“Boot Camp” in Paradise

You came for racing, instruction, and fun – right? That’s what you get with no down time. This fast-paced high-performance sailing program involves a lot of concentration and physical activity every day. You start Sunday evening with an orientation and welcome reception where you meet crew mates and coaches. Unless you book a crew of four, we have already assigned you to a crew based on a resume you filled out in advance. Monday through Friday you race and learn non-stop – two on-water sessions with your coach onboard each day, seminars during lunch each day, three pre-dinner video recaps during week. There’s a fun beach buffet or informal dinner Tuesday, and Saturday is the awards dinner with trophies for the top three winning crews awarded. Anyone traveling with you is invited to attend all three evening events (welcome reception, Beach BBQ and Awards Dinner).

“I loved Race Week. Our crew all felt as if we learned more than we ever dreamed we would. We(47)_1.13C_CeceFowler_andTeam_700x465 conquered fears, had questions answered and became more confident, tactically savvy sailors. Personally, the week surpassed my expectations; I’ll be recommending it to others regularly. Thanks especially to the Captiva team who worked selflessly and seamlessly to make sure we had everything we needed. And as for our coach – Linda, Susan, Lisa and I felt were the luckiest of all, but then in talking to others I think most everyone had similar experiences.”

About Rooms and Villas: Offshore Sailing School’s fleet is located at the north end of the resort in the yacht harbor, surrounded by Harbourside Guest rooms and Marina Villas. Harbourside rooms, with two queen beds and a refrigerator, are ideal for singles and couples. Marina Villas sleep up to six with two bedrooms, a full kitchen and living room with a sleep couch. Bayside Villas and Beach Villas are located at the south end of the resort where you check in, about 2 miles from the yacht harbor and our boats. Free trolley service, electric carts and bicycle rentals are available, or you can rent a car at Southwest International Airport (RSW) if you fly. Villas usually have a king bed, two doubles and a sleep couch. Please, verify your total package and room configurations with the Offshore Sailing School sales associate you book your course with, if you are coming with a family or larger group than four. Rates are subject to change.

About Sharing: Package rates are based on everyone taking the sailing competition course and sharing a room or villa, except for the last column above which is for a non-racer sharing same room or accommodation unit as those in the Fast Track to Racing program. This is easy to figure out for Harbourside Rooms and 1-bedroom villas, with just one bedroom. In two bedroom units the non-racer sharing rate means that person is occupying the other bedroom, each in a private room. Kids are free in some cases, there may be a charge for the sleep couch if all are adults, and extra beds cost extra. The Offshore Sailing School sales associate you book your course with will help you with any additional costs.

Here’s what our Performance Race Week participants have to say:

This has been a great learning experience and it delivers. With the same skipper (back home) we never finished better than 4th. Yesterday we got a second and 2 firsts!

John Breyfogle – Countersville, AL

I’ve attended many courses in 37 years as a Navy pilot and airline pilot. This course and particularly the Offshore instructor were outstanding.

Tom Corboy – Annapolis, MD

If you love to go fast and strive to be better, you can’t bet the combination of owning your own Colgate 26 and taking the Performance and Racing classes. They are top notch instructors.

Phil Weintraub – Hopewell Junction, NY

I attended Performance Race Week with Bill Gladstone. I was not comfortable taking the helm during a race until I attended this camp. I have since become quite confident in my driving skills and feel very competitive with the rest of the fleet – hence 3rd place finish in the Marblehead NOODS!

Shawna Gauthier – Marblehead, MA

The printed curriculum looked great but it was even more power-packed than I expected. I have waked away with more knowledge and experience than I ever expected. This was a total success.

Diana Augsburger – Kenmore, NY

Race Week was absolutely the BEST!!! Many thanks for a wonderful and really educational week. I can’t believe how much I learned, and I loved meeting all the other participants and, of course, our coach.

Kim Frisbie – Ft. Washington, PA

I loved Race Week. Our crew all felt as if we learned more than we ever dreamed we would. We conquered fears, had questions answered and became more confident, tactically savvy sailors. Personally, the week so far surpassed my expectations; I’ll be recommending it to others regularly. Thanks especially to the Captiva team who worked selflessly and seamlessly to make sure we had everything we needed. And as for our coach – Linda, Susan, Lisa and I felt were the luckiest of all, but then in talking to others I think most everyone had similar experiences.

Cece Fowler – Houston, TX

I couldn’t possibly convey how much fun I had this week. Bill Gladstone is simply one of the most personable yet commanding teachers I could imagine. Our team’s learning curve was substantial, yet we managed to win one of the practice races prior to the regatta and we got several fifth place finishes and a third. The entire week has to be one of the most memorable in my life.

Tim Cordle – Winter Park, FL
