Passage Making Delivery - JUST ONE BERTH LEFT!
If long-distance sailing is on your "bucket list" here's an opportunity you won't want to miss – a Passage Making delivery with expert Offshore Sailing School instructors. We are adding a beautiful Sceptre 43 to our cruising fleet this November, with four learn and crew positions available on each of two legs as we deliver it from Portsmouth, RI to Captiva Island, FL. This is a one-in-a-million chance to actually do a delivery and learn at the same time. Are you ready?
A true ocean-going yacht
Dragon's Bane is a true ocean-going yacht complete with lee cloths, many hand holds below, a full compliment of sails including storm sails and trisail track on the mast. Built to ABYC standards, it has terrific stability and is solid as a rock. She is 43' overall, with 12'8" beam, 6'1" draft and mast 59' above DWL The name Dragon's Bane comes from the old English words meaning "Slayer of Dragons" and indeed she did in the Newport to Bermuda Race in 1998, 2000 and 2004. This boat is fully equipped with ev
erything you need for a blue water passage.
Portsmouth, RI to Charleston, SC
The first leg starts on November 9 and takes you 1090 nautical miles offshore, along the East Coast in the Atlantic Ocean, to Charleston, South Carolina with an ETA on or about November 16-17.
Charleston, SC to Captiva Island, FL
The second leg is scheduled to depart Charleston, SC on November 20 on a 637 nautical mile course to the Florida Keys, across the Florida Bay to the Gulf of Mexico and north to Captiva Island. ETA is on or about November 27-28.
Two instructors, four crew
Only four berths are available for each leg, with two crew and an instructor on each watch. This is non-stop sailing in whatever weather comes your way. You will get incredible hands-on training steering, changing sails and reefing as needed, navigating, using all the instruments aboard, preparing meals underway, and utilizing good seamanship and safety procedures.
Be flexible. Ocean passages are never exactly as planned and ETAs can change. That is the beauty of being out at sea. "There is just nothing better than steering through waves with shooting stars overhead at night," reminisces Steve Colgate, Offshore Sailing School founder and a veteran ocean racer with 9 TransAtlantics and 20 Bermuda Races under his belt. Now you can find out why sailors like Steve continue to go offshore whenever they get a chance.
Sign up today for the leg of your choice . . . or both!
The package cost per leg is $1795 per person. If you choose to do both legs, your total cost is $2695 ($447.50 discount on each leg). All meals while underway are provided in your package. You are responsible for travel arrangements to and from your embarkation and final delivery points, travel costs and any meals ashore.
You will need a good suit of ocean-going foul weather gear, sea boots, gloves, and warm (wicking) layers. We will make recommendations if you don't yet have this gear. If you choose the second leg, also bring lighter wear for use as the weather warms up.
