Catamaran Live Aboard Navigation

During this six-day course you go beyond what you learned in Bareboat Cruising Preparation or Live Aboard Cruising – sailing from The Moorings base in Tortola, British Virgin Islands on a spacious Moorings catamaran. With a large and airy top-side main salon, this is the perfect platform for learning Coastal Navigation and practicing how to be a successful navigator.

While you gain valuable experience in chartering and handling a popular cruising catamaran, this course is not about learning to cruise on a catamaran. The sailboat is the platform for in-depth coastal navigation insltruction, with the added advantage of getting to know more about what catamaran sailing is all about.

As you master the nuances of piloting, each day you'll sail to a new destination in one of the best cruising areas of the world. Your classroom for the week is a Moorings 4300 with a maximum of three other classmates and your instructor aboard.

"Incredible instructor. Louise is a one-of-a-kind treasure who has vast experience and a great temperament for teaching. Patient yet firm. She made the experience great!"
William Johnston – Waco, TX

Learn the nuances of navigation

Each morning at anchor you'll work on progressive navigation excercises and scenarios that relate to tides and currents, fog and heavy weather. Underway you’ll be taking bearings, running fixes and determine your lines of position. Throughout your time aboard, you’ll use charts, some electronic aids, and compass to determine deviation and variation, speed, time and distance and everything else required to pass your Coastal Navigation certification test. As you move from island to island, port to port, you’ll rotate positions as navigator, crew and skipper – recording your positions in the ship’s log as you go. Each evening you’ll debrief before dinner.

All inclusive packages

Plan to arrive Sunday at The Moorings base on Tortola, sleep aboard your yacht that night and set sail the next morning.
