Intro to Sailing Course

A Mini Learn to Sail Experience

This short sailing getaway is for beginners or small boat sailors who want to get the feel of a performance keelboat. It’s also a great course for sailors who want to introduce the joys of sailing to family and friends who have not yet expressed a keen interest taking a certification course. Your time with Offshore Sailing School includes six hours of basic sail training all on the water over a two day period with three hours of instruction each day, or two 3-hour sessions in one day. Make sure you add an extra day to explore and play – as all Offshore Sailing School resort locations are great vacation destinations.

“We love the water and have always been interested in learning to sail. Your intro course was perfect for us. Just the right amount of instruction and hands on experience to wet our interest and build confidence. We are interested in taking the 3 or 5-day Learn to Sail Course.”

Fun Way to Start Sailing

You learn on a sleek, award-winning Colgate 26 sailboat, with a maximum of three other students and your instructor aboard. All Colgate 26 sailboats in the Offshore Sailing School fleet were bought new, and cost over $46,000 each. We invest in your education with safety in mind, to make sure your experience is absolutely the best. In addition to safety procedures, you will learn a lot about sailing and, we hope, decide to pursue the sailing lifestyle with the Learn to Sail Certification Course.

The 6-hour Intro to Sailing Course is designed to get you involved in learning the basics of sailing without classroom sessions or certification. Depending on weather conditions and the learning pace of all in your class (maximum four per boat per instructor unless you opt for a Private Family Course), the following knowledge and skills will be learned and practiced.

  • How to leave a dock
  • How to return to a dock
  • How to make a sailboat go where you want it to go
  • How to steer and be part of the crew
  • How to find wind direction
  • How to adjust sails to use the wind
  • How to tie some most-used knots

Pre-requisite for the 6-Hour Intro to Sailing Course: No prior sailing experience required
