Sailboat Speed Training and Safety Techniquesperformance sailing

Fast Track to Performance Racing starts with the 3-day Performance Sailing Course, the next step up from Offshore Sailing School’s Learn to Sail Certification Courses. In three information-packed days, you learn sailboat racing tactics and techniques – trimming sails and rig for speed, placing you and your crew where weight does the most good, mastering the art of flying a spinnaker downwind and on reaches are important techniques for how to sail fast. As an added bonus, our sailboat racing courses also expand and solidifiy your knowledge and confidence levels related to safety aboard.

“Fast Track Performance Race Week is a great experience that can accelerate the learning curve for those of us who want to learn to sail fast, but can’t get enough sailing time in during our normal lives to gain the experience to do so quickly. Bring your crew to sail the Colgate 26 and return home with a new set of racing skills and sailing friends from around the world.”

Total Immersion in Performance Sailing

Our sailing competition courses finish with Performance Race Week, a week of serious (and fun) sailboat speed training and racing tactics with four crew per boat and 10 Colgate 26 sailboats on the line! This fast-paced sailing competition course involves a lot of concentration and physical activity every day. Race Week starts Sunday evening with an orientation party to meet crew mates and coaches who are there to teach you how to sail fast. Unless you book a crew of four, we assign you to a crew with others. Monday through Friday you race and learn non-stop – morning and afternoon on-water sessions with your coach onboard and seminars during lunch each day, three pre-dinner video recaps during the week. There’s a fun buffet dinner Tuesday, and Saturday is the awards dinner with trophies awarded. Don’t hesitate to bring family and friends to share this spring getaway. The resort has gorgeous beaches, pools, tennis, golf, bicycling, fishing and more to make their time just as rewarding as yours.

About Rooms and Villas: Offshore Sailing School’s fleet is located at the north end of the resort in the yacht harbor, surrounded by Harbourside Guest and Waterview rooms and Marina Villas. Harbourside rooms, with two queen beds and a refrigerator, are ideal for singles and couples. Marina Villas sleep up to six with two bedrooms, a full kitchen and living room with a sleep couch. Bayside Villas and Beach Villas are located at the south end of the resort where you check in, about 2 miles from the yacht harbor and our boats. Free trolley service, electric carts and bicycle rentals are available, or you rent a car at Southwest International Airport (RSW) if you fly. Villas usually have a king bed, two doubles and a sleep couch. Please, verify your total package and room configurations with your sailing advisor if you are coming with a family or larger group than four. Rates are subject to change.

About Sharing: Package rates are based on everyone taking the sailing competition course and sharing a room or villa, except for the last column above which is for a non-racer sharing same room as person racing. This is easy to figure out for Harbourside Rooms and 1-bedroom villas, with just one bedroom. In two bedroom units the non-racer sharing rate means that person is occupying the other bedroom, each in a private room. Kids are free in some cases, there may be a charge for the sleep couch if all are adults, and extra beds cost extra.

Offshore Sailing School knows we cannot thrive without great employees and products. All graduates are asked to fill out an evaluation at the end of the course. The following testimonials come from those evaluations and individual correspondence with recent graduates of the Fast Track to Performance Racing Course. Many are happy to correspond by email or phone with you. If you would like us to put you in touch with anyone below, please call 888-454-7015 or email Sail@OffshoreSailing.com.

Here’s what our Fast Track to Performance Racing Course graduates have to say:

The printed curriculum looked great but it was even more power-packed than I expected. I have walked away with more knowledge and experience than I ever expected. This was a total success.

Diana Augsburger – Kenmore, NY

Fast Track Performance Race Week is a great experience that can accelerate the learning curve for those of us who want to learn to sail fast, but can’t get enough sailing time in during our normal lives to gain the experience to do so quickly. Bring your crew to sail the Colgate 26 and return home with a new set of racing skills and sailing friends from around the world.

Jay Hermann – Denver, CO

This has been a great learning experience and it delivers. With the same skipper (back home) we never finished better than 4th, yesterday we got a second and 2 firsts!

John Breyfogle – Countersville, AL

I’ve attended many courses in 37 years as a Navy pilot and airline pilot. The course and particularly the Offshore instructor were outstanding.

Tom Corboy – Annapolis, MD

If you love to go fast and strive to be better, you can’t beat the combination of owning your own Colgate 26 and taking the Performance and Racing classes. They are top notch instructors.

Phil Weintraub – Hopewell Junction, NY

I attended Performance Race Weeks with Bill Gladstone. I was not comfortable taking the helm during a race until I attended this camp. I have since become quite confident in my driving skills and feel very competitive with the rest of the fleet (hence 3rd place finish in the Marblehead NOODS!)

Shawna Gauthier – Marblehead, MA

Performance Race Week was fantastic. What you learn in one week is more valuable than anything you’ll learn in yeas of sailing.

Winter Hawley – Manitowoc, WI

A great customer service experience from registration to course completion. The quality and investment in training you provide all of your staff shows. Thank you for making my experience and the experience of my team mates so wonderful.

Noa Rea – Winnipeg, Canada
