Get started with the best education you'll find, bar none!

If you are not yet an Offshore Sailing School graduate, two course levels are available for soon-to-be Club members to get you up to speed. If you have very little sailing knowledge or none at all, the Learn to Sail course gives you the skills to sail comfortably on our Colgate 26 club fleet. If you already have good basic sailing experience on boats like a Colgate 26, the Performance Sailing course gives you the go-fast skills to truly enjoy club sailing and racing.

"Offshore provided a great learning experience that not only taught me how to sail, but showed me how enjoyable it really is.  The instructors were knowledgeable and well-presented but most importantly they were enthusiastic. You could tell they loved sailing, and you couldn’t help but get into it."
Joseph Bonanni, Endicott, NY

The best textbooks for learning about sailing

The Colgates have written textbooks for nearly all their courses, covering what you will learn and more. To see a complete list of what is covered in each course, please see What you learn in our courses.

"By the end of the 5-day course I felt I now know how to sail. You have underpromised and overperformed, which is a delight to say."
John dePass, Hamilton, ON

Take the whole course in three action-packed days, or at a more leisurely pace over five days, depending on the location you choose. The three-day schedule includes 1-1/2 hours of classroom each day, followed by 6 hours of on-water instruction with a break for lunch ashore.

The five-day schedule includes morning classroom sessions and half-days of on-water instruction. This more leisurely schedule leaves plenty of time to pursue other resort activities.

Every course includes a practice sail where you and your classmates chart a course and sail without your instructor aboard. No other sailing school does this at the ''learn to sail” level on $40,000+ sailboats. It's the ultimate test of Offshore's ability to give you what you came for and then some - proof positive of how much you learn and the start of a lifetime of sailing adventures.
