St. Petersburg, Florida
The Mansion House Bed & Breakfast – A Unique Getaway on Florida’s Suncoast
Located on Florida's West Coast at the entrance to Tampa Bay, historic St. Petersburg is a popular vacation
destination with an array of cultural, sports and recreational activities. Known as Florida's Suncoast, this area has 35 miles of pristine shoreline that includes some of the top-ranked beaches in the nation.
One of our favorite getaways is the Mansion House Bed & Breakfast owned by Kathy and Peter Plautz. Their personal touch, enhanced by Kathy’s sister Diane – a masseuse therapist – makes your stay with Offshore Sailing School truly unique in many ways.
Everything is in walking distance
Located a short walk to our boats in the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina, the center of St. Petersburg and the famous Pier next to the Vinoy Basin, are fine shopping and dining. You’ll find this the perfect spot to Learn to Sail. Kathy, Peter and Diane attend your every need, avidly swapping sailing stories over a delicious hearty breakfast each day and ensuring your experience is the best ever. After a day of sailing, you're greeted by the sweet smell of warm homemade cookies and ice tea. Robes in every room allow you to slip into the Jacuzzi garden spa and swimming pool in anticipation of a fun night on the town.
Surrounded by history and fun
The Mansion House (home of the first St. Petersburg mayor) is actually two historic houses, with a beautiful brick-paved garden and large secluded swimming pool for its guests. You'll find British B&B tradition in the main house built in 1904, and arts and crafts style in the adjacent carriage house built in 1912. Each room is uniquely decorated with antiques, hand-made bedding and custom painted furniture by an internationally known artist-in-residence.
Whichever course you choose - Learn to Sail, Fast Track to Cruising® or Live Aboard Cruising - your stay in St. Pete and at the Mansion House is one you'll long remember.
Tampa Bay is an ideal location for training sailors. Many anchorages, barrier islands and special ports make this a great place for our Live Aboard Cruising course and the open waters of Tampa Bay allow Learn to Sail participants lots of latitude in practicing new techniques and maneuvers. The magic of Walt Disney World and Sea World are just 90 minutes away, and only 40 minutes away is Tampa’s Busch Gardens.
